School History

IERE HIGH SCHOOL : Naparima College, Siparia Branch was founded in 1955 in the Western Methodist Church Building on George Street, Siparia. Iere High school as we know it today, was established in May 1957 on fourteen acres of land at Bayanie Trace, High Street, Siparia.

THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE NAME " IERE"

In 1868 The Rev'd Dr. John Morton began his life's work in Trinidad by reviving an old American  Mission that had been abandoned years before in Iere Village, Princes Town. There Morton  established the first Presbyterian School in Trinidad with an enrollment of three students. The school's name, therefore bears witness to the geo-physical place of origin of the Presbyterian Church in Trinidad.

The initials I. H. S. ( Iere High School ) are the first letters of the Greek words  IKTHOUS HEASOUS SOYTAYR , means "Jesus Christ, Son of God, Saviour of the World."  ( Courtesy Ken K. Kalloo, Iereview 1994 - 1995 ).

Iere High School is one of five Presbyterian secondary schools in Trinidad and Tobago, and it is notably the only coeducational of the five. Iere has gained over 50 academic scholarships over its establishment in 1955. The school is usually a first-choice secondary school by primary school students when writing their Secondary Entrance Examination. The Former Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago Kamla Persad-Bissessar is a former student of the institution as well as Members of Parliament Dhanraj Singh, Glen Ramadarsingh, Stacy Roopnarine and Nicole Oliviere.
